I started my professional life in architecture. I graduated from The University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Architecture in 1971. After working in various aspects of commercial architecture with different firms, I landed at Kiawah Island with the original development group that opened the Resort in 1976. After an exciting two years working on development of the Resort, I started my own architectural practice on Kiawah designing custom homes constructed on Kiawah and Seabrook Islands. Then in mid 80s, I had an opportunity to enter the retail sector in the Straw Market (now gone) on Kiawah Island. I found much joy in retail sales, and with my wife, opened several new stores in The Straw Market on Kiawah and in Freshfields Village between Kiawah and Seabrook Islands. After selling our last store, Islands Mercantile, at the end of 2018, I wanted something to do to work with my hands and utilize the skills I have developed over the years. So, I created Dave’s Handyman Services to assist homeowners and small business owners handling small projects that are difficult and frustrating to accomplish.
After years of seeing homeowners disrespected by tradesmen not bothering to show up for appointments, or being hours and sometimes days late, I promise to provide a different service.
My goal is to be on time, every time, and my work is satisfaction guaranteed.
